Common Seller Questions About the License
"What does the second-hand-goods license have to do with my sale?" A lot — licensed dealers provide legal and financial protection. Unlicensed dealers operate outside the system, exposing sellers to risks including receiving funds from money laundering and facing accusation.
"What if the dealer's license expires during my transaction?" License renewal is the dealer's responsibility. Transactions occurring while the license is valid remain valid sales. If license lapses during appraisal — the dealer must disclose and not transact until renewal.
"Dealer says 'license pending' — transact?" No — by law, license must be obtained before operating. "Pending" = unlicensed operator. Sellers should not transact.
"I'm selling to an individual not through a dealer, need a license?" No: individuals selling personal assets don't need one. But the "more than 6 sales/year" threshold may be classified by Revenue Department as "engaged in watch trading" — see Thailand 2026 Luxury Watch Tax.
