Asking Price vs What the Dealer Paid — Your Negotiating Room
We do not publish per-reference VC list prices on this page. We do not hold verified MSRP figures for every reference, and guessing one for you would be worse than useless. What we do have is more useful anyway: what dealers pay to acquire.
Bangkok dealers with the capital to buy VC at Overseas or Patrimony level number no more than five, and that group pays 72–82% of the market range — the same range printed in the table above.
Applied to the Overseas 4500V at its THB 1,850,000–2,350,000 market range, dealers acquire in the region of THB 1,332,000–1,927,000 depending on condition and set completeness. That spread is not pure profit: it covers capital locked up for months, authenticity risk, and service that may follow. But knowing it exists is why an offer under the sticker is normal practice here rather than an insult.
The narrow buyer base cuts both ways. The side that favours you: a dealer holding a VC knows how few people in Bangkok will buy that watch next. You are one of them, and he knows it.
Service Cost — Add This to What You Are Willing to Pay
This is where pre-owned VC buyers most often underestimate. VC servicing from Bangkok routes back to Geneva, at roughly THB 80,000–180,000 depending on complication, with a four to eight month turnaround.
Those two numbers hurt in different ways:
- THB 80,000–180,000 is money you need available. Complication sets the position in the range — a time-only Patrimony sits at the bottom, a Patrimony Perpetual Calendar at the top.
- Four to eight months is the harder part, because you will not have the watch for any of it. If this VC is your only serious watch, plan for that rather than discovering it when the movement stops.
The practical consequence: an example with official service inside the last five years carries a 6–9% premium over one with no history, and it is worth paying. On a 4500V, 6–9% is around a hundred thousand baht or a little more — often less than the first overhaul bill, and it buys you half a year of wearing the watch as well. Always ask for the service invoice. If there is none, treat the first overhaul as a cost you carry soon and subtract it from what you offer.
Five Things to Check Before You Pay
VC counterfeits in Asia are less common than Rolex, Patek or AP, because constrained demand makes VC a poor investment for a counterfeiter — the Overseas super-clones in circulation are only moderate quality. But the value per piece means a single mistake is expensive. What we check every time:
1. The Maltese Cross — dial, crown and rotor
The Maltese Cross must be sharp and three-dimensional. Look at the four arms of the cross: the symmetry has to be perfect. This is where counterfeits fail most often, because forming a symmetrical three-dimensional cross is much harder than printing one. Check all three positions, not just the dial.
2. The Overseas six-sided bezel
The Overseas bezel uses a six-sided design inspired by the Maltese Cross. What matters is that polished chamfers and satin-brushed surfaces alternate consistently on every face, not only the one pointed at you. Tilt the watch into a light source and rotate it slowly through a full turn.
3. The Hallmark of Geneva on the movement bridge
VC is one of eight brands carrying the Hallmark of Geneva (Poinçon de Genève), stamped on the movement bridge — the highest finishing standard in the industry. Caliber 5100 (Overseas Self-Winding) and 5200 (Overseas Chronograph) carry the Geneva Seal engraving, verifiable with the Geneva Watchmaking Foundation. If the watch in front of you lacks it, or the engraving is soft, stop there.
4. Côtes de Genève — the finishing is what you are paying for
VC uses hand-finished Côtes de Genève with consistent angle and depth across the movement, at a finishing level above the Rolex and AP standard. This is the part that explains why VC costs what it costs, and the part a counterfeiter cannot reproduce at a price that makes sense.
5. Straps, clasp and set completeness — this is serious money
Every Overseas from 2016 on leaves the factory with three straps — steel bracelet, leather and rubber — swapped tool-free by the owner. An example with all three present is worth 12–18% more than one down to a single strap.
If the watch you are looking at is missing straps, negotiate on it directly, because that same 12–18% will be missing from your number when you come to sell. VC's alligator straps come from the Geneva workshop, and the buckle must carry deep, crisp VC engraving — check the buckle, not just the leather.
A Certificate of Origin from VC Boutique Bangkok (Gaysorn Plaza) matters to Thai buyers far more than a first-time buyer expects. If you intend to resell in Thailand, buy the example that has one.
Which References to Prefer
Overseas Self-Winding 41 (4500V) — caliber 5100 in-house with the integrated bracelet system. One of three flagship integrated-bracelet steel sports watches alongside the Royal Oak and the Nautilus. If you want one VC that works for every occasion, this is it, and it is the most-traded VC in Thailand — which makes it both the easiest to find and the easiest to sell.
Overseas Chronograph (5500V) — caliber 5200 in-house chronograph. In Bangkok, buyers looking for a Holy Trinity steel sports chronograph typically decide between this and the Royal Oak Chronograph 26331ST. If you want the less-recognised piece with movement work at the same level, the 5500V is the answer.
Patrimony 40mm White Gold (4100U/000G) — a genuine dress watch at 8.1mm thick, aimed at senior executives who need something for formal wear. If your goal is a suit watch rather than a daily watch, the Patrimony is the correct choice, and roughly THB 460,000 cheaper than the Overseas at the median.
Historiques American 1921 (1100S/000A) — the cushion-case piece inspired by a 1921 reference. A collector watch with some of the most stable pricing in the table. If value retention worries you, this is where you lose least.
Fiftysix Self-Winding (4600E/000A) — VC's entry-level collection, launched 2018, at THB 850,000–1,080,000. The cheapest way into the brand, and a price point that reaches a far wider pool of buyers than anything else here, so it resells more easily than people assume.
The Honest Resale Outlook
VC made up roughly 1% of our inquiry volume across 2024–2026 — the lowest count of any brand we cover — but the second-highest average value per piece after Patek Philippe. That pair of numbers explains everything about VC resale.
In your favour: VC is not a brand whose prices move on hype. A narrow collector base is a stable base, not a fashionable one. The Hallmark of Geneva and an unbroken record since 1755 are not going to be revised away.
Against you: when you sell, you meet a market with very few real buyers. Bangkok dealers able to take a VC at this level number no more than five and pay 72–82% of the market range. If your piece is a Grand Complication or a Métiers d'Art, the sale may need to route through Phillips Geneva or Christie's, which means time and fees.
The Thai VC seller mix runs roughly 55% Overseas family, 30% Patrimony and Traditionnelle, 15% Historiques and Grand Complications. If you want the easiest exit, stay inside that first 55%.
Put plainly: buy a VC because you want that level of finishing on your wrist, not because you expect a quick resale. If liquidity is the goal, a Rolex sports model is an entirely different question.
