Where to Sell Your Luxury Watch — Bangkok vs Singapore vs Hong Kong 2026

Selling luxury watches in Hong Kong yields 4–9% more than Bangkok for Rolex and 6–12% more for Patek/AP. Singapore adds 2–6%. After travel, tax, theft risk, and transfer fees, sellers under ฿1.5M typically net more in Bangkok; above ฿3M, Hong Kong wins clearly.

Where to Sell Your Luxury Watch — Bangkok vs Singapore vs Hong Kong 2026

Three Major Asian Markets — One Demand Pool, Different Prices

Hong Kong, Singapore, and Bangkok are the three largest pre-owned luxury watch markets in Southeast Asia. I track real Thai clearing prices through the Bangkok Real-Clearing Price Index, WatchCharts regional index, auction results from Bonhams Hong Kong / Sotheby's Singapore / Auction House Thailand, and our dealer network across all three cities.

Every time a Bangkok seller asks "how much more can I get in Hong Kong?" the answer is not the headline price. You must account for travel cost, import tax exposure, theft risk, and dealer commission.

Comparative Prices (June 2026, Real Tier-1 Dealer Buy Prices)

Reference Bangkok Singapore Hong Kong
Rolex Submariner 126610LN ฿420,000 ฿435,000 (+3.6%) ฿450,000 (+7.1%)
Rolex GMT Pepsi 126710BLRO ฿720,000 ฿745,000 (+3.5%) ฿775,000 (+7.6%)
Rolex Daytona 116500LN ฿1,580,000 ฿1,640,000 (+3.8%) ฿1,720,000 (+8.9%)
Patek Nautilus 5711/1A ฿4,650,000 ฿4,870,000 (+4.7%) ฿5,150,000 (+10.8%)
AP Royal Oak 15500ST ฿2,650,000 ฿2,790,000 (+5.3%) ฿2,920,000 (+10.2%)
Patek Calatrava 5227G ฿1,480,000 ฿1,540,000 (+4.1%) ฿1,620,000 (+9.5%)
Omega Speedmaster ฿182,000 ฿188,000 (+3.3%) ฿195,000 (+7.1%)
Tudor Black Bay 58 ฿94,000 ฿96,000 (+2.1%) ฿100,000 (+6.4%)

Structural observations:

  • Hong Kong premium is largest for Patek/AP — collector demand from mainland China and trade-tax-free port make HK the clearing premium hub for luxury sport
  • Rolex steel sport premium is lower — all three markets have nearly equal supply
  • Tudor and Omega: premium too thin to justify travel for these tiers

Cross-Border Sale Costs

Scenario: Sell Submariner 126610LN in Hong Kong

Hong Kong price: ฿450,000 Bangkok price: ฿420,000 Gross spread: ฿30,000

Required deductions:

  • BKK-HKG round trip (economy, 2 nights pre-meeting): ฿14,000
  • 2 nights 3-star hotel TST: ฿7,000
  • HKIA → district + meals: ฿4,500
  • SWIFT transfer fee back to Thailand (~0.55%): ฿2,500
  • High-value watch carriage insurance: ฿2,000

Net result: ฿0 advantage — Hong Kong does not beat Bangkok for a single Submariner sale.

General Rules — When Cross-Border Sale Pays

Below ฿500,000 → sell in Thailand. Travel cost consumes the spread.

฿500,000–฿1,500,000 → Thailand default. Cross-border only worth it if combining multiple pieces in one trip.

฿1,500,000–฿3,000,000 → Hong Kong worth it if you can bundle other pieces and don't want to risk Thai-side Patek Extract from Archives delays.

฿3,000,000+ → Hong Kong clearly worth it for single-piece trips. 8–12% premium on high values covers business-class travel comfortably.

Risks Most Thai Sellers Underestimate

1. Thai customs declaration — Watches leaving Thailand (and re-entering if not sold) should be declared at Thai Customs with photos and serial numbers to avoid problems on re-entry. Thai customs may assess value and charge 7% VAT if importer can't prove the piece exited Thailand previously.

2. HK/SG taxes — Hong Kong has no GST so sales are tax-free on the HK side. Singapore has 9% GST (since Jan 2024) but dealer-to-dealer transactions are often structured as "personal sale" exempt from GST. Confirm with dealer first.

3. Thai income tax on proceeds — Sales of personal assets not part of a business are not assessable income under Revenue Code Section 40(8). But sellers who transact frequently (≥6 sales in 12 months) may be classified as "watch trader" required to register for VAT. Consult a Thai accountant.

4. Theft risk — Tourists wearing high-value watches in Hong Kong and Singapore are targets for organized pickpocket teams, especially around Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Orchard Road. Carry in camera bag, use pre-booked car services, avoid public transit.

5. Foreign dealers rejecting incomplete provenance — Hong Kong / Singapore dealers expect complete provenance. Thai sellers who arrive with incomplete papers often get lower offers than expected — or return empty-handed.

Alternative — Sell in Bangkok to a Dealer Who Exports

Several Tier-1 Bangkok dealers (including Thai Watch Market through our Hong Kong partners) buy high-value Tier 1 pieces in Thailand and re-sell internationally. Buy prices land between Bangkok and Hong Kong rates, with the dealer absorbing travel risk and cost.

For Nautilus 5711/1A, a Tier-1 Bangkok dealer might pay ฿4,850,000–฿4,950,000 — roughly 4–6% above typical Bangkok buy prices but below direct Hong Kong sale. The seller carries no travel risk, no 3-day commitment.

Common Questions

"Which Singapore dealers should I use?" Serious Singapore dealers: The Hour Glass, Sincere Watch, Crown Watch Boutique on Orchard Road and Marina Bay Sands.

"Which Hong Kong dealers should I use?" Serious Hong Kong dealers: Patrick's Watches (Central), Time Tunnel (Causeway Bay), Coupé (Tsim Sha Tsui), Wing Wo Watches (Mong Kok).

"Is Chrono24 better?" Chrono24 listing prices run 8–15% above actual clearing prices (per WatchCharts data tracking listing duration and price-drop patterns). Sellers wait 30–90 days, carry chargeback risk and buyer complaints — not suitable for most.
